Our Founders

Andra Spurr has worked in publishing most of her life, beginning at the Colorado Daily in Boulder, Colorado. On returning to her native Rhode Island she worked in advertising sales and production at several newspapers before joining the staff of a monthly sailing magazine in Newport.

In the 1970s Dan Spurr was a hospital administrator before following his passions for writing and sailing, which took him to Rhode Island where he met Andra, working at the same magazine. In 1987 they took off on a sailboat cruise during which their son Steve was born. Andra and Dan returned to Rhode Island, and continued to work for sailing magazines until moving to Montana.
